Flavia Nyinakiiza Re-Elected Speaker of Kabale District Council
Kaharo Sub-county Councillor Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi has retained her position as Speaker of Kabale District Council after defeating independent candidate Baker Turyamureba in a closely contested vote at the District Rukiiko Hall.

Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi has been re-elected Speaker of Kabale District following a competitive election held at the District Rukiiko Hall.

Nyinakiiza, the Kaharo Sub-county Councillor and candidate for the National Resistance Movement, defeated independent candidate Baker Turyamureba after securing 21 votes against 14.

The election was presided over by Derrick Byamugisha, who officially declared Nyinakiiza the winner.

Following her victory, Nyinakiiza took the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office before receiving the instruments of authority from Robert Mugabe.

The items handed over included the district council stamp, mace, bell, Local Government Act, Constitution, standard rules of procedure, gown and office keys.

In her acceptance speech, Nyinakiiza thanked councillors for once again entrusting her with the leadership of the district council.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the councillors for again entrusting me with the speakership role,” Nyinakiiza said.

She also announced that the new term would be her final one as Speaker of Kabale District Council.“I also want to tell all of you that this is my last term for me to be Speaker of Kabale District,” she added.

Shortly after assuming office, Nyinakiiza presided over the election of the Deputy Speaker.

Tom Kazemera, the NRM flag bearer, defeated independent candidate Hillary Ahimbisibwe with 19 votes against 16 to become the new Deputy Speaker.

Kazemera replaces Ronald Mugisha Ian, who recently contested for the Kabale Municipality mayoral seat but lost to incumbent mayor Emmanuel Byamugisha Sentaro in the general elections.
